Sadie

This one caught my eye because my daughter’s name is Sadie although I certainly hope she never ends up like the character in this book!

The audiobook is probably a better way to consume this book since it is written like a serial podcast. Listening therefore gives a more authentic feel than reading. The story itself felt a little trope to me; Sadie and her sister are raised in a less-than-ideal situation with a drug addicted mom who brings a parade of men into and out of their lives. Eventually mom takes off which may be for the best and with the help of a caring neighbour, Sadie essentially raises her younger sister. Shattered by her sister’s tragic murder, Sadie goes missing. The book follows the podcast host as he tries to find Sadie. The audiobook is more like a radio-play with a cast reading the different parts as the host conducts interviews while he traces Sadie’s journey. This is not a book I will remember or think of in years to come but it was escapism which is what I was looking for at the time. The podcast slant was at times a bit odd but at least made the book a little different from others in the same genre.
