They Both Die at the End

Even though the ending is no surprise, the journey is worth taking. What would you do if you knew it was your last day to live? This book takes that question and runs with it. I liked that it presents the view that even if some things are fated, every action is still a decision. Sometimes decisions that are difficult to make are worth the effort. DeathCast is a service that calls you in the early hours of the day you are going to die. Faced with the knowledge of his imminent death, the shy and timid main character chooses to live contrary to all his previous days. This reality is filled with the things that might be created if impending death was a known commodity; A Last Friend app, free meals for “Deckers” and social media platforms for “Deckers” to post about their final hours. This book is intended for the young adult audience and the writing is simplistic but the ideas it explores are interesting and the characters are fairly well-developed.
