Another great kids’ book, this one is about how a girl with no arms navigates the difficulties of the early teenage years. It is a great way for young readers to identify with people who have a disability or difference. Aven is a very likable main character and despite the fact that she lives in an amusement park and is trying to solve a mystery, the situations she encounters are mostly pretty relatable. Readers of all ages can learn a lot about determination and inner strength from the way she approaches challenges. Parents can learn a lot from the way Aven’s parents manage to be supportive and empathetic while still enabling her to find her own way.
