The Great Alone contrasted with Ordinary Grace

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah and Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger

These stories were strikingly similar despite having very different settings. I may not have realized the similarities had I not been reading one while listening to the other but it did give me an interesting opportunity to compare and contrast the two books. They both involve men who have been profoundly changed by war and show how their ability to deal with these changes affects their families. They each also feature a Romeo and Juliette type of romance that increases the complexity of the characters’ lives. I would not take one book over the other as they are both compelling stories and have rich, well-developed characters. They are both worth reading.  I have written individual reviews for each below.
