Ordinary Grace is set during a warm summer in a small town in Minnesota. The protagonist is a boy who is trying to navigate the trials of growing up while hoping to solve multiple murders that touch his life. The war has left his father empty. He is introspective, without passion and strives to assuage the guilt he feels about the war by being of service to others. The relationship between the two brothers gave this book a bit of a Huckleberry Finn vibe with a little less cheek.
