This first of the Inspector Pitt series is set in Victorian London and is centered around an upper-middle class family and their reactions to a series of murders in their community. No one is beyond suspicion and the author leads the reader to suspect many different characters. It is a good old-fashioned mystery and I loved the main character’s evolution as she found herself and her voice.
